Testing FAQ

The following awesome questions surface in every consultation I have with parents regarding SAT and ACT testing for college admissions. Here are some of the most frequently asked questions distilled and simplified.

WHO

Students should begin testing for the ACT and the SAT during their year in Algebra 2. In this way, they will then have all the math skills needed for success: Algebra 1, Geometry, and Algebra 2.

WHAT

All colleges accept the SAT and the ACT for college admissions. Try Both!

WHEN

The tests are typically administered in the following months:

  • SAT - March, May, June, August, October, November, December
  • ACT - February, April, June, July, September, October, December

WHERE

Register at sat.org and act.org.

WHY

To score your personal best To enhance your opportunities at dream schools To qualify for scholarships.

HOW

Test prep is imperative!!

  • Self prep with official workbooks. Use the Official ACT Prep Guide and the Official SAT Study Guide. Lots of various prep books are available, but these are the Best as they contain real, retired, official tests. Free online resources are available at sat.org and act.org.
  • Prep classes and/or private tutoring with vetted, legitimate businesses who are members of the National Test Prep Association found at https://nationaltestprep.org/directory/
